Mariëtte Everitz
Introduce yourself! Who are you, and what's your role at the Loyaltek Group?
"I’m Mariette, I’m 35 years old and I live in Valencia, Spain. I work as technical support for Giftify and also do Dutch translation for marketing."
How did you end up at Giftify?
“Before Loyaltek, I was working at a corporate job and I didn’t want to do that anymore. I wanted to work remotely. I decided to go on the Internet and browse through different remote vacancies. I found Loyaltek and some other offers, so I decided to apply. Then I went through the selection process and that’s how I got the job at Loyaltek.”
What do you want to achieve in your career?
“I want to grow and be able to do more of what my passion is, which is helping people and making sure that their days are optimal, that they are happy. I also want to be happy with what I do on a daily basis. One of the things that I’ve been doing since last year is learning how to code. That’s something that I want to do more of and get better at. And just to be happy and wake up thinking “Yes, today is another day when I get to do what I love!””
If you could have dinner with 3 inspiring women, dead or alive: who would they be and why?
"There is my mom because she has shown me what it means to go from nothing to having everything. She is definitely one of my heroes. She lives in Aruba, it's far away and I don’t see her that often so it would definitely be awesome.
Then my favourite artist, her name is Tori Kelly. She is the kind of artist that doesn’t go with the flow of what sells well in music. Right now, sex sells but she doesn’t sing about that. She sings about real life struggles and things that we, as women, go through.
The last one would be Joyce Meyer, she is a motivational preacher/speaker for women. She’s helped me realise that even though I’ve been through the worst of the worst, it doesn’t mean that it’s the end of the world. We have to keep on seeing the positive. She has a quote that says: “I’m not where I want to be but I’m not where I used to be”. It’s about living day by day and keeping that positive mindset."
Tell us about a professional experience that made you who you are today.
"When I was living in Aruba, for many years I was volunteering to make sure that the youth wasn’t living on the street or doing something bad, like joining gangs. I did some sort of counseling, for young women as well. It’s something that gave me a different perspective because I saw what other people were struggling with. I was able to help them grow and see them do better in life. So, that provided me with a different perspective. It doesn’t matter where I am now; if I want to accomplish something, I can. It doesn’t matter if other people tell me that I can’t or that I’m not good enough, because I’ve been hearing that a lot in my life. Volunteering helped me grow and made me who I am today."
If you could share just one piece of career advice with women in our community, what would it be?
“Even though it seems like it’s a male-dominant world, “Who run the world? -Girls!”. It doesn’t matter if it’s a male-dominated world, and it seems challenging. Going through struggle is possible. Don’t give up, you have to find your own way. Use it, don’t go with the flow, don’t go with what society tells you. Do whatever you need to do because you are good enough, and strong enough, and powerful enough."
